Midtown Stroll

As it's usually the case when I do portrait shoots around midtown, I asked the talent to meet with me outside the New York Public Library. Right then, I eased in to begin taking pictures very casually, so literally, I introduced myself to Grace and simultaneously began to press the shutter, which I liked a lot as it helped her give the camera beautiful relaxed expressions. Grace is an actress and producer currently based in NYC. I invite you to check out her fantastic website and learn more about what she’s all about! gracesu.com

My first photo walk with Grace extended for about 3 hours on a hot summer afternoon; allowing me to experience challenging lighting conditions from overcast to direct and backlight. Within 45 minutes into the shoot, we continued photographing around Time Square and Broadway.

The more I get to shoot portraits, the more I realize how much it helps to forget about the camera. For that reason, I began to make an effort to have the camera settings dialed in before meeting with the subject, so I can be a step closer to getting good exposures from the get go!

There is a significant number of portraits taken on this session with Grace, which I will start sharing on future posts when I try to deconstruct my process. So for now, I close this post with these three photos that for me, encapsulate the wonderful diversity Grace and I were able to achieve in our first shoot.
