It feels great to finally have access to a bag full of lenses, but does that mean I must use them all, every single time?
On my last photo walk, I was excited to pack all my prime lenses, including my two long telephotos: A macro 100mm, and a 200mm F/2.8. So, shortly after I began taking pictures, I realized having two similar focal lengths was giving me counterproductive results. What can I say?I was impulsive and I now understand that not every photo session requires a wide, normal or close up angle of view.
On this photo walk, I wasn't concerned with proximity or magnification. One of my goals was to create the illusion of flatness, which was an effect I got from both lenses.
I enjoy the challenge and control from a prime lens, but the extra weight on my bag isn't fun, for that reason, a new rule of thumb for me to follow is to not take more than two different lenses when going out for a walk, and hopefully someday using one single lens will be all I need!
